Frequently Asked Questions

Before You Visit

Amused Studios looks like a house. Can I just walk in?
Yes! The building is a dedicated pottery studio, and you’re welcome to stop in during our normal business hours 12-6pm Thursday-Sunday.

How do I park at Amused Studios?
Our driveway is located on West Main Street. When you arrive, pull in and park along the right side behind the building. Please park in front of a yellow parking stop or anywhere you won’t block another vehicle from parking, leaving, or driving through.

Can I park at Autobahn Service Center and walk over?
We ask that all visitors use the Amused Studios parking lot. We, and our neighbors at Autobahn Service Center appreciate your help in keeping their parking available for their customers.

Do I go to the house or the garage?
Come to the front door of the house. All classes, gallery sales, and studio services take place in the house.

Classes

Are your classes beginner friendly?
Absolutely! All of our classes are beginner friendly. Simply choose the class that best fits your schedule and interests.

Do I need to sign up for a class ahead of time?
Yes. Advance registration is required for all classes.

Can I walk in and take a class?
All classes must be reserved ahead of time. We aren’t able to accommodate walk-in class registrations.

Do I need to bring anything?
No. We provide everything you need for class. If you already have favorite pottery tools, you’re welcome to bring them.

What should I wear?
Most classes don’t have any special clothing requirements. Please note that you will get dirty, so dress accordingly. If a class does require specific attire, such as a Raku firing, it will be noted in the class description.

I have long hair or long fingernails. Will that be a problem?
Please tie long hair back before class. Long fingernails can make wheel throwing a little more challenging, but many students work around them.

Do I need to help clean up?
Yes. Clean-up begins about 15 minutes before the end of class. Students are expected to clean their workspace and help return shared tools and materials. Learning to care for the studio is part of the pottery experience.

What if my pottery cracks or breaks?
Pottery is an art form, and not every piece survives the drying or firing process. While we take great care with every project, tuition covers instruction and the creative experience rather than guaranteed finished pieces.

What happens if I can’t make my class?
If you let us know ahead of time, we’ll be happy to move your registration to another available class. We understand that life happens and will always do our best to work with you. Class registrations are non-refundable because your reservation holds a seat that someone else may have wanted.

Why are some classes scheduled outside your normal business hours?
Some classes are intentionally scheduled outside our regular business hours to provide a quieter, more relaxed studio experience.

How long does it take for my pottery to be finished?
Most pottery is ready for pickup in about 3–4 weeks.

How will I know when my pottery is ready?
We’ll text you as soon as your pottery is finished and ready for pickup. Finished work is placed on our self-service pottery pick-up shelves. Any pottery left after six months becomes the property of Amused Studios.

I don’t live nearby. Can you ship the pottery I make?
Absolutely! We can ship anywhere in the United States for a flat rate of $15.

Studio Services

Do you offer paint-your-own pottery?
No. We don’t offer pre-made pottery to paint. However, you’re always welcome to schedule a time to come back and glaze the pottery you make here.

Do you sell finished pottery?
Yes! We have a showroom filled with handmade pottery available for purchase during our business hours.

Do you offer gift cards?
Yes! Gift cards are available online and gift certificates are available in studio.

Can I buy clay from Amused Studios?
Yes. We carry Cone 6 stoneware clay in both white and brown for $1.50 per pound.

Can you fire pottery that I made somewhere else?
Yes, as long as you know the type of clay and the firing temperature. We will always fire clay purchased from Amused Studios.

Firing Rates
Full Bisque Kiln: $100
Full Glaze Kiln: $120

Firing is charged based on the percentage of the kiln your work occupies. Small pieces are often only a few dollars to fire. For example, a mug around 3½” × 6” typically costs about $2.50 total for firing.

If you’re unsure what your project will cost, bring it by the studio and we’ll be happy to estimate it before firing.

Do you repair pottery?
No, we don’t offer pottery repair. However, you’re welcome to stop by our showroom—you may find another handmade piece you’ll love.
