<  Decorative: Horse Hair  >

A polished, low fire pot is the base canvas for this treatment.  The piece is finished by firing the pot in a raku kiln to 1500° Fahrenheit; it is then removed from the kiln and placed on a fire brick pedestal. Horse hair, saw dust and feathers are then placed against the surface, igniting them immediately.  Smoke and carbon are transferred into the pores of the pot.  Physically placing or rubbing the pot with these materials is much like painting with smoke.
